CAMBODIAN SUGAR PALM JOURNEY

Cambodian Palm Sugar Journey

An experience unique to this part of the world, uncover the way of life for generations of the Khmer people whose livelihood comes from the palm sugar tree Borassus flabellifer indigenous to Cambodia. More than just a source of food product, the Khmer people depend on the sugar palm tree for fuel, animal feed, and was even known to have been used as paper for Khmer manuscripts in the 12th century.

Join Chef Pisith on a visit through the busy morning market, sampling through exotic foods, tropical fruits, fresh herbs and dried spices. Receive a warm welcome at an inviting multi-generational homestead set in a rustic Cambodian rice field, who continue to harvest and produce palm sugar with primitive and natural techniques. Delight in the sugary and woody aromas of fresh palm sugar juice steadily stirred and carefully caramelized over an open log fire.

Wrap up your experience on a sweet note with palm leaf-wrapped palm sugar souvenirs and a delicate four-course meal back at The Dining Room, carefully created to accentuate the pure, silky sweetness of the Khmer palm sugar.
